Project Development Methodology

There are a number of frameworks available for defining projects and for managing their implementation. At Data Perceptions we use our own project methodology that we have developed through years of experience in the development and deployment of IT projects.

While the level of detail involved in the process will vary depending on the complexity and scope of the project, the basic steps we follow with each project remain the same.  For a smaller project these steps may be completed in a two hour meeting followed by an email summary, for larger projects, multiple meetings may be required. In either case, we begin by defining the Business Objectives and Requirements. Through consultation with the client, we complete a document which summarizes the objectives, stakeholders, assumptions, and recommendations associated with the project. Information is gathered and confirmed for each of the following:

• Project Summary
• Project Stakeholders
• Existing Situation
• Enhancement Overview

To ensure that all stakeholders share the same understanding of the project, this document will also clarify items that are not included in the project, as well as any outside factors or issues that might affect the project. These items will be documented as:

• Out of Scope
• Business Assumptions and Constraints
• Issues and Risks

The conclusion of this process in every case is a clear articulation of the Business Requirements associated with the project.
